Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has declared Thursday, June 26, a public holiday across the state in celebration of the Islamic New Year, 1447 AH.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor congratulated the people of the state, especially Muslims, on the beginning of the new Hijrah year.

The statement read, “The Governor, meanwhile, has again approved that Thursday, the first day of Muharram 1447, be observed as a statewide holiday in commemoration of the new Islamic calendar.”

Governor AbdulRazaq called on the Muslim community to reflect on the meaning of Hijrah, which he described as a symbol of sacrifice, peace, and justice.

“Hijrah teaches personal and collective sacrifice for good causes and abandonment of everything that is antithetical to peace, harmony, and social justice,” he said.

He also urged citizens to promote peaceful living, respect for one another, and dialogue in resolving conflicts.

The governor prayed that the new Islamic year would bring blessings, safety, joy, and strong faith to all families in Kwara State.
