The Kwankwasiyya Movement has stated that the departure of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso from the New Nigeria Peoples Party marks the beginning of the party’s decline in Kano State and could extend to its structure nationwide.

Speaking on Tuesday during an appearance on Arise Television, the movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Mohammed, reacted to Kwankwaso’s recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a turning point for the NNPP.

Mohammed explained that the party’s identity and political relevance have been closely linked to Kwankwaso, stressing that his exit significantly weakens its influence, particularly in Kano, where it previously held strong sway.

He further noted that Kwankwaso, who played a central role in shaping the NNPP’s dominance in the state, is now positioned to become a major force within the ADC, adding that the shift is likely to redefine the political dynamics in Kano.

According to him, Kwankwaso’s reputation for consistency, principled leadership, and straightforwardness has continued to command loyalty, which could trigger a wave of defections into the ADC.

Mohammed also pointed out that many politicians are inclined to align with Kwankwaso, not necessarily due to shared ideologies, but because of confidence in his leadership style, direction, and capacity to organise and protect his supporters.

He concluded that the evolving political situation in Kano is set to usher in a highly competitive and dynamic contest in the months ahead.
