Renowned Nigerian filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, has officially launched his much-anticipated film village and resort in Igbojaye, Oyo State, marking a significant milestone for the Nigerian creative industry.
The unveiling ceremony of the Kunle Afolayan Productions Film Village and Resort took place on Saturday, drawing the presence of notable dignitaries, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Hannatu Musawa, the Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy.
Other government officials in attendance included Wasiu Olatunbosun, Oyo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism; Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information; and Wasilat Adegoke, Commissioner for Youth and Sports. The event also saw a gathering of actors, producers, and other key players in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
During the event, Governor Makinde lauded Afolayan for his visionary project and emphasized its significance in boosting cultural tourism in the state. He also assured full government support to ensure sustainable power supply for the facility.
“What a remarkable feat this is for my brother, Kunle Afolayan, the visionary whose project has brought us all together,” Makinde said. “This project represents a big win for Oyo State. Kunle Afolayan is not from Oyo State, but see what he has done in the state.”
The governor further highlighted the impact of the project on the local community, stating: “Afolayan chose this place, and what this project has achieved is that it has put this location, Igbojaye, on the global map as far as tourism is concerned.”
He pledged infrastructural support, adding: “I will talk to the Commissioner for Energy to put in here a solar mini grid. Second, even if we have to take a direct electricity line from Okaka, which is only 23 kilometres away, to be dedicated to this place, we will do it.”
The KAP Film Village and Resort is expected to serve as a hub for film production, talent development, and cultural tourism, reinforcing Afolayan’s dedication to advancing Nigeria’s creative industry.
