Kogi State was created in August 27, 1991 under the Ibrahim Babangida regime.

The state is located in the North central zone of Nigeria, it is popularly called the confluence state because the confluence of Rivers Niger and Benue occurs in the state. Its capital is Lokoja. There are three main ethnic groups in the state- Igala, Ebira and Okun. Majority of the people in the state are farmers.
