Channels TV’s Mr. Segun Salami has clinched the position of Chairman for the Correspondent Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kogi Council, following an uncontested victory during the chapel’s congress in Lokoja.
In his acceptance speech, Salami expressed his commitment to purposeful leadership and conveyed his appreciation to chapel members for the seamless consensus that led to his election and the formation of the executive team.
He said, “Today marks another milestone in the history of our great chapel. Today is also when our journey towards progress and prosperity as correspondent members begins.”
Acknowledging the chapel’s significant role within the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Salami pledged diligent and unbiased discharge of duties, emphasizing, “With this new responsibility hanging on our shoulders, we want to pledge to you all that we will discharge our duty diligently without fear or favour.”
He outlined plans to make critical decisions for the benefit of all members, stating, “We shall continue to initiate programmes and activities that would bring more welfare to our members.”
Expressing gratitude to the outgoing chairman, Mr. Friday Idachaba, Salami stated, “My fellow senior colleagues, permit me, with every sense of humility and responsibility, to appreciate the members of this noble chapel for finding us worthy to pilot the affairs of this chapel for the next three years.”
Outgoing chairman, Mr. Friday Idachaba, thanked chapel members for their steadfast support during his tenure and urged continued backing for the new executive.
He said, “I implore the chapel’s members to accord more support to the new executive to enable them to record greater success and take the chapel to enviable heights.”
Mr. Ibrahim Obansa, the representative of NUJ Kogi State Council, commended the members for the orderly election, stating, “I commend the chapel for always showing good examples for other chapels and councils to follow in the state.” He assured the chapel of the continuous support of the Kogi State Council of NUJ.
The newly elected executive team includes Mr. Thompson Yamput of NAN as Vice Chairman, Oyibo Salihu of Blueprint as Secretary, Ayobami Omole of Leadership Newspaper as Financial Secretary, Joseph Amedu of Nigerian Standard as Treasurer, and Victoria Nnakaike of Business Day as Auditor.
