Kogi govt to launch free medical service initiative

Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has announced plans to launch a comprehensive healthcare intervention that will provide free medical services across the state.

The initiative, which aims to make healthcare more accessible and affordable, was disclosed by the governor during a meeting with members of the Nigeria Medical Association and other healthcare professionals on Monday.

The healthcare professionals had gathered at the Government House in Lokoja at the governor’s invitation following the completion of a three-day medical outreach organized by the Kogi NMA.

Ododo expressed his gratitude to the medical professionals for their efforts during the outreach and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in the health sector.

He emphasized that the outreach aligns with his campaign promises to improve healthcare accessibility for the people of Kogi State.

He said, “A healthy society is a wealthy society. I will continue to support you in this exercise and ensure that it reaches our people in all parts of the state. I want you to count on my support as we work together to make the free medical outreach a flagship program in our calendar of medical activities so that we can make healthcare more accessible and affordable to our people.”

The governor called on medical practitioners in the state to continue supporting his administration and to explore further collaboration with the government through the state Ministry of Health.

The Commissioner for Health,Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, commended the medical team for the successful execution of the free medical outreach.

He noted that the initiative demonstrated the dedication of medical professionals in the state and served as a testament to their commitment to improving healthcare.

Chairman of the Committee of Past Chairmen of Kogi NMA, Dr. David Aimila, described the outreach as an impactful intervention that provided essential medical services under the conducive environment facilitated by the Kogi State government.

Chief Medical Director of Reference Hospital in Okene, Prof. Solomon Avidime and a host of the medical team, praised Governor Ododo for his administration’s support of healthcare initiatives.

He also expressed the hospital’s readiness to host similar medical missions in the future, noting that such efforts complement the state’s free health insurance policy by bridging gaps in healthcare coverage.

This upcoming healthcare initiative by Governor Ododo is expected to significantly enhance the quality of life for residents across Kogi State by ensuring that vital medical services are available to all, regardless of their financial means.
