The Governing Council of the Federal University, Lokoja, has approved the dismissal of four lecturers for their involvement in examination malpractice and sexual misconduct.
The decision was reached during the council’s Second Meeting, held on Thursday under the leadership of Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba.
The dismissal follows investigations into allegations of examination malpractice and sexual harassment leveled against the lecturers last year.
The university management reportedly adhered to due process throughout the inquiry, culminating in the council’s decision to uphold its zero-tolerance policy for unethical behavior.
In a statement after the meeting, Senator Ndoma-Egba reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to high ethical standards, warning that no form of misconduct would be condoned.
“The council will not tolerate any unethical conduct in the university,” he stated.
He further directed the university to expedite investigations into other pending misconduct cases, including a prominent one in the Faculty of Science that has recently gained media attention.
The council emphasized the importance of a safe and ethical learning environment for all students.
Staff and lecturers were cautioned against any form of student molestation, with the council urging students to report such incidents promptly.
“Students must always speak out when they are molested,” the council advised, reiterating its commitment to holding offenders accountable.
The university community and stakeholders have lauded the council’s decisive action, viewing it as a step toward maintaining FUL’s reputation as a center of academic and moral excellence.
