Kidnappers reduce ransom for killed Kwara monarch’s wife to N40m

Gunmen who perpetrated the assassination of Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole, the Olukoro of Koro-Ekiti in Kwara state, and subsequently abducted his wife and another individual, have reportedly reduced their ransom demand from N100 million to N40 million, as revealed on Sunday. 

According to Tribune Online, the chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee in the Ekiti local government council of Kwara state, Chief Kehinde Bayode,  shared insights into the ongoing situation, stating, “The kidnappers had initially demanded N100 million ransom, which has now been reduced to N40 million.” 

He further added, “We are still negotiating with them, and I’m currently en route to Koro to gather the latest information on the negotiation process. We will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.”

Moreover, there was a development regarding a suspect in the case. Bayode informed the media that a suspect was apprehended in Eruku town on Sunday.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state Police command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, did not confirm any arrests in connection with the incident. 

Ejire-Adeyemi stated, “The CP has deployed a tactical team to Koro Ekiti to fish out the perpetrators. Policemen are working with other security agencies to free those that were abducted during the kidnapping incident. No arrests have been made yet. We are going to keep you abreast of the development as it unfolds.”

The tragic incident has shaken the community, and efforts to secure the release of the abducted victims continue amidst the negotiations with the perpetrators.
