In a tragic incident, a housewife lost her life, and her husband sustained injuries during a horrifying encounter with gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded at the Mile 6 area of Jalingo in the early hours of Sunday.
According to Daily Trust, the spokesman of Taraba Police Command, SP Usman Abdullahi confirmed the incident during a telephone interview.
He stated that the assailants forcibly entered the residence of Mr. Balanko Alex Gamalia. In a desperate bid to abduct the couple, they opened fire, injuring both Mr. Balanko and his wife.
Tragically, the wife of Mr. Balanko succumbed to her injuries and lost her life on the spot, leaving behind a heart-wrenching scene.
Meanwhile, Mr. Balanko, who sustained injuries during the attack, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jalingo. During this brutal incident, two additional individuals, one of whom was a woman, were forcibly taken from the house.
Abdullahi, the police spokesman, assured the public that the law enforcement agencies were actively pursuing the kidnappers and urged citizens to come forward with any information that could aid in tracking down these criminal elements in society.
The rising incidence of crime in Taraba has raised alarm among residents. Just last week, some Taraba residents were kidnapped and had to pay a substantial ransom of N7 million for their release.
One of the victims recounted the horrifying conditions they endured while in captivity, including being chained and treated as slaves.
The community is left mourning the loss of the housewife, and their thoughts and prayers are with the injured husband as he fights for his recovery.
Authorities are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore a sense of safety and security to the region.
