Kidnappers free ex-Zamfara councillor’s wife, eight-month-old baby

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have released the wife and eight-month-old baby of the former councillor of Tundunwada ward of Gusau local government of Zamfara State, Babangida Damba.

WuzupNigeria reported that the duo was abducted on Wednesday when gunmen invaded their residence at the Government Residential Quarter in Damba, leaving the ex-councillor with a gunshot wound on his left arm.

A dejected-looking Damba had on Wednesday claimed that he put a distress call to the police immediately to come to his rescue but they did not show up until 3:00 am after the criminals had long gone with his wife and son.

However, Channels, quoting sources close to the family reported that the victims were released on Friday evening after spending more than 48 hours in captivity.

“Alhamdulillah, Glory be to Allah, my wife and my baby regained freedom,” the former councilor, Babangida Haruna, posted on his Facebook page.

At the time of filing of this report, it is unknown if a ransom was paid before the duo were released.
