Kidnappers abduct Lagos couple
Yet-to-be-identified gunmen on Saturday reportedly abducted a couple, firing shots in the air to create panic in the Alfa area of Igbogbo within the Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State.
According to eyewitness Adisa Tobias, a resident of the community who recounted the incident to Vanguard, saying, “The community was thrown into panic when gunshots rented the air continuously.
“When the area became a bit calm, we went to investigate what had happened. We only discovered a child in the vehicle while the parents had been taken away.
“When we tried to ask the child about its parents, it pointed a hand to the bush, saying some people took them away.”
The abductors reportedly escaped into the swamp with the couple before the police arrived at the scene.
The police began combing the wooded and swampy areas in an attempt to locate the kidnapped couple.
Another resident, speaking on the condition of anonymity, suggested an alternative escape route, saying, “I’m not sure if the kidnappers made away with the couple through the swamp.
“They might have come with a vehicle parked at the other end of the road, where they quickly moved the couple in and drove off immediately.”
The resident added that if the kidnappers had taken the couple into the woods, the police might have captured them.
However, he noted that the police arrived shortly after the incident.
In response to the incident, the police arrested a member of the Celestial Church of Christ who has a bathing pool by the side of the water, along with some residents of Igbe.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
