Tom Tikyaa, a staff member of the Nigerian Television Authority, and 12 other passengers who were abducted while traveling on a Benue Links bus have been successfully released from captivity.

The incident occurred on a fateful Sunday when the 13 individuals, including the bus driver, were kidnapped while traveling on the Benue Link bus along the Otukpo – Ugbokolo road in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State. The bus was en route from Onitsha in Anambra State back to Makurdi.

Reports indicate that armed kidnappers intercepted the vehicle in Okpokwu LGA, leading to the harrowing abduction.

Family sources of the freed victims have alleged that they paid a total sum of N7.5 million to secure the release of their loved ones.

However, Comrade Gabriel Tachia, the Secretary-General of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (Benue Links chapter), has stated that he is unaware of any ransom payment for the release of the victims.

Tachia confirmed that all 13 victims, including Tom Tikyaa, regained their freedom on Wednesday night. The news of their release has brought relief to their families and well-wishers.

As the victims reunite with their loved ones, there is yet to be an official statement from the Police Public Relations Officer for Benue Command, SP Catherine Anene, who mentioned that she was yet to receive information regarding this development.
