The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the release of Usman Daina, the Secretary of Munya Local Government Area, who was kidnapped by armed bandits.

Daina was freed unharmed after security forces launched a continuous pursuit operation.

According to reports, heavily armed bandits attacked Munya LGA on February 21, 2025, abducting several residents, including the council secretary. It was gathered that the attackers moved from Chibani Forest through the Shakwata axis before raiding communities such as the Dandaudu area.

The bandits reportedly broke into homes, looted food supplies, and kidnapped multiple people.

Following the incident, a joint team of Nigerian Army troops, police tactical units, vigilantes, and other security forces was deployed to track the kidnappers.

Their swift response led to Daina’s safe release, while efforts are ongoing to rescue other victims and capture the attackers.

Security sources revealed that forces are currently using aerial surveillance and intelligence-based operations to raid the bandits’ hideouts.
