Nigerians are among the world’s top social media users, spending an average of 3 hours and 23 minutes each day on social platforms.
Data released in 2024 by Cable.co.uk and We Are Social, and posted by World of Statistics on X, ranks Nigeria fifth globally for daily social media time.
Leading the global list is Kenya, where people average the most time on social media at 3 hours and 43 minutes daily.
South Africa follows at 3 hours and 37 minutes, Brazil at 3 hours and 34 minutes, and the Philippines at 3 hours and 33 minutes. Nigeria’s 3 hours and 23 minutes places it just behind these countries in social media engagement.
Statista, a global research platform, also confirmed Nigeria’s high social media activity, noting that Nigerians spend an average of 4 hours and 20 minutes daily on social media across different platforms. In contrast, the global average social media usage is 2 hours and 23 minutes per day.
Other countries with high social media usage include Colombia at 3 hours and 22 minutes, Chile and Indonesia each at 3 hours and 11 minutes, and Saudi Arabia at 3 hours and 10 minutes. Argentina completes the top ten with an average of 3 hours and 8 minutes daily.
In comparison, countries like Ghana, Egypt, and Thailand report lower engagement on social platforms, with daily averages of 2 hours and 43 minutes, 2 hours and 41 minutes, and 2 hours and 30 minutes, respectively.
European nations show lower usage, with Portugal at 2 hours and 23 minutes, Romania at 2 hours and 20 minutes, and Italy at 2 hours and 17 minutes.
