US rapper Kendrick Lamar stole the spotlight at the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards, winning eight awards, including Song of the Year and Artist of the Year. Nominated for a total of 11 awards, Lamar, known for hits like ‘Not Like Us’, emerged as the evening’s biggest winner.
The ceremony, hosted for the third consecutive year by Fat Joe, was held in Las Vegas last week but aired on Tuesday night.
Other standout winners included Nicki Minaj, who took home Hip Hop Album of the Year, Sexyy Red as Breakthrough Hip Hop Artist, and Missy Elliott, who won Best Live Performer.
The BET Hip Hop Awards, a spin-off of the main BET Awards, focuses on celebrating achievements in black entertainment, particularly within the hip hop genre.
This year’s event featured performances by Trina, Yung Miami, Juicy J, and 2 Chainz.
Travis Scott, known for his hit Highest in the Room, received the I Am Hip Hop Award, which recognizes his decade-long contributions as both an artist and producer.
In his acceptance speech, Scott said, “I’ve always had this idea and vision to take the sound and take things to the next level… where you come from doesn’t really matter; what goes on in your brain can take you to the next level and beyond.”
