The Kebbi State Police Command has said a bomb or any aerial attack did not cause the explosion at the General Hospital in Bagudo.
The police explained that the incident, which happened in the early hours of Tuesday, was the result of an inferno that led to overheating of gas in hospital equipment.
The explosion caused panic among residents of the area, but the police confirmed that no life was lost and no one was injured.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to him, findings from investigations ruled out explosives or any form of aerial activity.
“Investigations and expert assessments have confirmed that the incident was caused by an inferno,” Usman said.
He explained that the fire affected equipment within the hospital.
“It overheated air-conditioning and refrigerator gas cylinders, resulting in the loud explosions observed,” he added.
Usman said experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear unit, alongside members of the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team, visited the scene.
“Assessments conducted by EOD-CBRN experts, alongside the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team, confirmed that no explosives or aerial activity were involved,” he said.
The police spokesman stressed that the situation did not lead to any casualties.
“No loss of life or injuries occurred, as verified by the on-site expert teams,” Usman stated.
The police urged members of the public and the media to ignore reports suggesting that the explosion was caused by a bomb or a helicopter.
“We advise everyone to rely solely on official information,” Usman said.
He added that security agencies had secured the area to prevent any further danger.
“The situation remains fully under control, and the Command remains committed to public safety and transparency,” he said.
The police also described the explosion as accidental and said no criminal activity was involved.
