The Kebbi State Government has dismissed allegations that Governor Nasir Idris rewards political thugs with government jobs or contracts.
The Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the governor, Abdullahi Idris, described the claims as “cheap and baseless” during a live interview on TVC News.
Idris explained that the governor follows a strict vetting process before making appointments or awarding contracts, ensuring that only credible and qualified individuals are chosen.
“Never, forever. The governor doesn’t give an appointment just like that for political reasons,” he said.
“When the governor wants to give you an appointment, he consults your local government or emirate to check your credibility, sincerity, and honesty.”
The governor’s aide emphasized that Kebbi State’s traditional and religious leaders are always involved in vetting potential appointees.
“How can a district head, a traditional ruler, or a religious leader recommend a political thug for employment in the government?” he asked, highlighting the thoroughness of the vetting process.
Idris maintained that the administration does not empower or encourage violence in any form. Instead, the government’s priority is to maintain peace and attract investment to create jobs and improve living standards for the people of Kebbi State. “All these words are mere and cheap allegations. The governor’s focus is on building the state, creating opportunities, and ensuring good governance, not rewarding violence”.
