The Kebbi State Government has pushed back against recent comments by Senator Garba Maidoki, accusing him of spreading wrong information about insecurity and development projects in the state.

The Senior Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to Governor Nasir Idris, Abdullahi Idris, issued a statement on Sunday describing the senator’s remarks as misleading.

Idris said Maidoki’s claim that about 200 communities were displaced by banditry was false. According to him, government records show that about 50 affected communities along the Wasagu–Sakaba axis had already returned home after security operations approved by the governor.

He explained that military deployment and field operations were planned and coordinated by Defence Headquarters, with Governor Idris providing logistics and support.

The state government also listed its efforts to boost security, including the provision of more than 100 Hilux vehicles, 5,000 motorcycles and the hosting of several security meetings attended by military chiefs, traditional rulers and experts.

On infrastructure, the statement said the reconstruction of the long-abandoned federal Koko–Zuru road was ongoing under the current administration, adding that Senator Maidoki was aware of the project.

The government accused the senator of working against major state projects and avoiding security consultations meant for representatives of affected communities. It further alleged that he was part of a political alliance aimed at weakening the APC government.

The statement read, “We are not surprised by his posture in view of his alleged alliance with ADC governorship aspirant Abubakar Malami.”

It added that both politicians chose to make media statements at a time when federal and state authorities were focused on rescuing the abducted schoolgirls in Maga, including hosting the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

The government insisted that the APC remained united and would not be distracted by “desperate collaborations driven by personal interest.”

Kebbi has battled persistent attacks across parts of the Zuru Emirate, with the recent abduction of students in Maga increasing pressure on authorities to act.

Senator Maidoki, who represents Kebbi South, has regularly criticised the state government’s handling of security and infrastructure, leading to frequent political clashes. His latest claims on displacement numbers and project execution triggered the renewed disagreement.
