The Kebbi State Government has approved N4.05 billion for the rehabilitation of seven general hospitals across the state.
The State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Junaidu Marshall, disclosed this after the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Nasir Idris in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.
Marshall said the decision was part of the government’s plan to strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure hospitals are well-equipped to serve residents.
The hospitals to benefit from the new approval are located in Kambaza, Suru, Kamba, Dirin-Daji, Kangiwa, Koko, and Yauri.
He explained that Argungu General Hospital had already been rehabilitated with modern facilities, while hospitals in Zaga, Zuru, Bunza, Gulma, Bena, Jega, Shanga, and Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi were either completed or undergoing renovation.
According to him, a total of 16 general hospitals have so far been rehabilitated under Governor Idris’s administration, in addition to the seven newly approved projects.
“The governor has assured that before the end of his tenure, all 30 general hospitals in the state will be rehabilitated and properly equipped,” Marshall said.
He also revealed that the council approved N570 million for the Kebbi Contributory Healthcare Management Agency to register 45,000 vulnerable persons under the State Social Register.
“This means that each of the 225 wards in the state will register at least 200 vulnerable individuals,” he added.
Marshall said the state had also met its counterpart funding for the World Bank IMPACT project, which will rehabilitate 73 primary healthcare centres. The council further approved the renovation of 42 more centres across the state.
He added that N407.5 million was approved as a take-off grant for the Kebbi State Drugs, Medical and Consumables Agency to ensure affordable drugs for residents.
The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Abba Sani-Kalgo, announced that the council also approved the creation of the Kebbi State Bureau of Statistics, with N900 million set aside as a take-off grant. Prof. Umar Usman was appointed as the state’s Statistician-General.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Shehu Mu’azu, said the government would also procure 2,000 power tillers at a cost of N3 billion under the Kaura Development Agenda to boost farming activities.
Similarly, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Attahiru Maccido, confirmed the approval of N1.4 billion for the purchase of school furniture to improve learning conditions in public schools.
