Katsina United Football Club has denied reports claiming that violence erupted and a player was killed during their recent NPFL league match against Barau FC at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
In a statement on Sunday, the club’s Media Director, Nasir Gide, described the report as false and misleading, accusing the unnamed online platform of spreading unverified information.
He said, “These claims are entirely baseless and a deliberate attempt to tarnish the club’s image and football in the state. At no point during the game did any supporter gain access to the main pitch.”
Gide admitted that the game was tense due to some officiating decisions but insisted that security operatives maintained control throughout the match.
“The assertions do not reflect what truly transpired. The game was managed within the confines of order and security,” he said.
The club expressed disappointment that such a serious allegation was published without verification, warning that misinformation of this nature could harm the image of the club and affect football development in the state and across Nigeria.
Gide added that Katsina United remains committed to professionalism, discipline, and fair play both on and off the pitch.
He also accused Barau FC of amplifying the false claims, saying the League Management Company had been informed and would be allowed to investigate the matter.
According to him, the club has demanded an immediate retraction and public apology from the online platform responsible for the report, warning that failure to comply could result in legal action.
“We advise the publishers of this misleading report to retract the story immediately, otherwise we’ll be left with no choice but to seek redress through appropriate legal channels,” Gide said.
