The Katsina State Police Command has presented an Inspector General of Police welfare package totaling more than N32.3 million to the families of six officers who died in active service.
The State Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, was represented at the event by Deputy Commissioner of Police Aminu Usman Gusau, who formally handed over the cheques at the Command Headquarters in Katsina.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the payments were described as benefits accrued under the Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident schemes for the deceased officers.
Speaking at the ceremony, CP Shehu expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for what he termed his magnanimity toward the bereaved families of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely in line with the objective of the welfare scheme, which is designed to provide relief and support to families left behind, and offered prayers for the repose of the departed officers.
Responding on behalf of the recipients, Hamza Surajo thanked the Inspector General of Police for the gesture and assured that the funds would be used to improve their living conditions.
