The Katsina State Government has expressed concern over the recent increase in banditry, attributing the resurgence partly to communities’ lack of cooperation in the fight against insecurity.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Mu’azu Danmusa, made this known during a press briefing at the Katsina Government House Press Centre.

Describing banditry as a problem rooted in the community, Danmusa emphasized the need for a community-driven approach to effectively address the issue.

He stressed that residents must actively support the government and security agencies to achieve success in the ongoing battle.

The commissioner urged citizens to continue providing crucial intelligence and information that could help apprehend criminals disrupting peace in the state.

Assuring the public that all shared information would be handled with strict confidentiality, Danmusa also called on residents to increase prayers for divine intervention to restore peace across the country.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to engaging communities through town hall meetings, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities in the security efforts.

“We welcome support from any person irrespective of their differences. Banditry requires local support to be tackled. 99 percent of the fight is ambushed. Some people are not patriotic enough because they undermine the government’s efforts in tackling insecurity,” he added.
