Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State struggled to hold back tears on Tuesday during the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State.

Dressed in native attire, Radda stood close to the gurney carrying Buhari’s body at the graveside. The emotional scene reflected the strong bond between Buhari, a native of Daura, and the people of Katsina.

Earlier, Fatima Buhari, one of Buhari’s daughters, was seen in tears at the family residence as preparations for the final rites continued. Relatives and friends gathered to console her and other family members.

Buhari died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at The London Clinic after a prolonged illness. His body, wrapped in the Nigerian flag, arrived at Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport around 1:59 pm. He was accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and family members.

President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Remi Tinubu were present to receive the remains. Remi Tinubu was also seen comforting Aisha Buhari, the widow of the late president.

Other dignitaries included members of the Katsina State Executive Council, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and several top officials. A military guard of honour performed a farewell parade before Buhari’s remains were taken to Daura for burial.

Buhari, who was 82, was Nigeria’s second-longest-serving leader.
