Katsina declares public holiday to honour late ex-president Buhari

The Katsina State Government has declared Monday, July 14, a public holiday in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari.

According to the statement, Governor Dikko Radda directed that the holiday be observed to allow residents and workers in the state to join the rest of the country in mourning the former president and offering prayers for his soul.

Mr Radda extended his condolences to the family of the late president, the people of Katsina State, and Nigerians at large.

“He described late Muhammadu Buhari as a great leader, a hero, a true democrat, and a patriotic elder statesman whose life was dedicated to the service of Nigeria,” the statement said.

The governor also prayed for divine mercy upon the late leader, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and reward his deeds with al-jannatul firdaus.

The statement added that further information regarding burial arrangements would be communicated to the public in due course.
