The Katsina State Police Command has arrested the Head of ATM Operations at a new generation bank’s Daura branch, Adewumi Gabriel, for allegedly conspiring with a colleague to steal N18 million from a customer’s account.

Adewumi confessed to working with his colleague, David Mesioye, who is currently on the run, to execute the theft using their knowledge of the bank’s operations. The fraud was uncovered during an internal audit by the bank.

Speaking on the case, Katsina Police spokesperson, Mr. Abubakar Aliyu, said, “We recovered N10.18 million from Adewumi’s bank accounts and physical cash of N366,900, along with other valuables. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to apprehend Mesioye.”

In a separate incident, the police arrested 37-year-old Bishir Abdullahi, a Sokoto State resident, at an old generation bank’s ATM in Katsina with 14 stolen ATM cards. Abdullahi, described as a notorious fraudster, allegedly swapped ATM cards of unsuspecting victims to withdraw funds from their accounts.

Police officer Sadiq, who was on duty at the bank’s Tudun Katsira branch, noticed Abdullahi acting suspiciously around the ATM machine. Upon searching him, the officer discovered 14 stolen ATM cards belonging to different banks.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that Abdullahi had withdrawn N2.705 million from the accounts of his victims using these stolen cards,” Aliyu stated. “The suspect will be charged to court after investigations are completed.”
