The Katsina State Police Command has thwarted a kidnapping attempt along the Dutsinma-Kankara highway, resulting in the death of three suspects, as confirmed by ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the command’s spokesman.

According to Sadiq-Aliyu, the incident occurred on December 10, 2023, around 4:30 p.m. when the police received credible information about armed robbers and kidnappers blocking the Dutsinma-Kankara highway.

The suspects were reportedly wielding dangerous weapons, including AK-47 rifles, with the intention of kidnapping unsuspecting members of the public.

“In response to the report, Area Commander Dutsinma swiftly mobilized a joint team of police operatives and members of the vigilante to the scene. The suspected kidnappers opened fire on the operatives, who valiantly returned fire, successfully neutralizing three members of the gang,” stated the police spokesman.

During the encounter, Masa’udu Sani, a member of the vigilante, sustained a gunshot wound on his right hand but is currently responding to treatment.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, commended the professionalism, synergy, and bravery of the operatives involved. He urged them to sustain the momentum in tackling criminal activities in the state.

Abubakar-Musa also called on the citizens of the state to provide crucial and timely information about criminal activities.

He emphasized, “Report to the nearest police station any person seen with suspicious injuries, as some of the bandits have escaped the scene with gunshot wounds.”

The police investigation is ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend other fleeing suspects.

The commissioner urged continued cooperation from the public to ensure the safety and security of the state.
