Kano to install toll gates on seven major highways to boost security

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has announced plans to install toll gates on seven major highways leading into Kano metropolis as part of efforts to enhance security monitoring and strengthen the state’s socio-economic framework.

The decision was disclosed in a press statement issued by Adamu Abdullahi, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Housing Development, and made available to journalists in Kano.

According to the statement, the move is aimed at improving surveillance of vehicular movement into the city and reinforcing security architecture at strategic entry points.

The proposed locations for the toll gates include Daura Road, Katsina Road, Gwarzo Road, Zaria Road, Maiduguri Road, Hadejia Road, and Sa’adatu Rimi Road.

The Commissioner for Housing Development, Arc. Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, has officially handed over the seven project sites to contractors for the commencement of construction.

Quoting the commissioner, the statement noted that the state government resolved to mount toll gates on all major roads leading into Kano metropolis “with a view to boosting the security and socio-economic apparatus of Kano State.”

He explained that the toll gates would serve as strategic control points to regulate and document vehicular inflow, adding that the project reflects the administration’s broader commitment to safeguarding lives and property through structured monitoring and improved infrastructure.

The commissioner also urged contractors handling the project to strictly adhere to project specifications and ensure timely completion within the stipulated timeframe to enable the government to achieve its security and development objectives.

The handover ceremony was witnessed by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Marwan Ahmed, and the Commissioner for Public Procurement, Dr. Nura Ma’aji, alongside other key officials.

The event featured the signing of handover documents between representatives of the Ministry of Housing Development, the contractors, and the project consultant, marking the formal commencement of the project.
