Kano State Government, on Friday, commenced the screening of visitors, particularly VIPs, to Government House, with medical equipment, as part of preventive measures to avert the spread of Corona Virus.
Shortly after the screening exercise at Government House, yesterday, the State Deputy Governor, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, said the exercise is part of strategic measures put in place by the Federal and State Government in detecting people with the virus.
“We will make sure that all those, who think they are the VIP’s are screened. As Government House, being a public place dealing with different categories of people, whoever that visits must be screened and that is why you see me (the Deputy Governor)being screened” he explained.
Gawuna maintained that the Coronavirus did not originate from Nigeria but from other foreign countries, stressing that the people that have access to this country are the so-called VIPs, who normally visit for official reasons.
He said: “So if it is the case of specifications, VIPs are the ones to be screened first. That’s why the Kano State Government deems it fit to make sure that the screening is conducted and will be extended to other strategic places too.”
On other measures taken by the State to control the prevalence of the COVID-19, Nasiru further, explained that the State had already reinforced its rapid response teams everywhere and is embarking on people sensitization programmes.
The Deputy Governor added: “Our agencies always advocate the issue of personal hygiene. The need for people to be clean is not only for coronavirus but you have to stay clean, so as to be safe from other diseases, like malaria.”
