Manufacturers in Kano are planning to bypass electricity distribution companies by partnering directly with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited, NDPHC, for steady power supply to revive industries in the state.
The plan was revealed during a business visit to the NDPHC head office by a 20-man delegation from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Kano branch, led by the Managing Director of Dala Foods, Alhaji Ali Madugu.
Madugu said manufacturers in the state are ready to pay for direct access to reliable electricity, describing it as a major step towards reviving production lines and saving jobs.
“Our members have both the capacity and the willingness to procure power directly from NDPHC. Access to reliable electricity is critical for reviving industries and sustaining jobs in Kano State,” he said.
Responding, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDPHC, Jennifer Adighije, assured the group that the company is prepared to support manufacturers within its operational limits.
“We are committed to partnering with the manufacturing sector to drive industrial growth, create jobs, and enhance socio-economic development. Within the provisions of the Eligible Customer framework, we are ready to work with MAN Kano to make this happen,” Adighije said.
She added that NDPHC is planning to free and commercialise about 200 megawatts of its 2,000 megawatts of stranded electricity before the end of 2025, noting that low demand from distribution companies has slowed its operations.
Also speaking, the company’s Executive Director, Corporate Services, Commercial and Strategy, Engr. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, and Executive Director of Networks, Engr. Bello Babayo Bello, explained steps the manufacturers could take to benefit from NDPHC’s available supply.
The meeting ended with both parties expressing optimism about a partnership that could boost industrial productivity and create jobs in Kano.
