Kano man remanded for slapping imam during prayer

A resident of Kano State, Nasiru Mukhtar, has been remanded in custody for allegedly assaulting Imam Malam Murtala Sulaiman during morning prayers at a mosque in Tudunwada.

The incident took place on October 22, 2024, around 5 am.

According to reports, Mukhtar entered the mosque, and attacked the imam by grabbing him by the neck, slapping him, and tearing his clothes. He also took the imam’s microphone during the altercation.

After the incident, Imam Sulaiman filed a complaint with the state police command, which led to Mukhtar’s arrest.

In court, Mukhtar’s lawyer requested bail, stating that further investigation was needed.

However, the presiding judge, Malam Isah Rabi’u Gaya, ordered a psychiatric evaluation to check Mukhtar’s mental health.

The court has adjourned the case until November 22, 2024, and Mukhtar will remain in custody until then.
