The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced plans to sponsor weddings for repentant thugs who have surrendered their weapons and embraced peace.

The Commander-General of Hisbah, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, revealed this after more than 1,000 youths renounced violence in the state.

“This programme is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s initiative to support youths who have turned away from crime and want to live a decent life,” Daurawa said.

He urged the youths to remain sincere in their repentance and called on others still in crime to take the same path.

Speaking at the event held at the Police Headquarters in Bompai, Governor Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, explained that the screening exercise by the police was only the first step in the rehabilitation process.

“After this, the NDLEA will also screen the youths to confirm the sincerity of their repentance,” he said.

Waiya added that the government would support the rehabilitated youths with start-up funds, vocational skills, and educational opportunities for those willing to return to school.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the programme, saying it shows the government’s commitment to fighting crime and giving young people a second chance.

Some of the youths, including Kamilu and Buzu Mai Kidan Gangi, thanked the government and stakeholders for backing their decision to turn a new leaf.
