The Kano State Government has earmarked N2.5 billion for its quarterly mass wedding programme across all 44 local government areas in 2025, as part of a broader initiative to promote social welfare and economic stability.
The State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono, revealed this while presenting the breakdown of the N449 billion 2025 budget, which was recently passed into law by the State House of Assembly.
According to Shanono, the mass wedding initiative is aimed at fostering a responsible and inclusive society by supporting couples who may otherwise struggle to afford marriage expenses. He stated that the programme aligns with the government’s commitment to human rights, social responsibility, and sustainable development.
The mass wedding scheme has been a long-standing policy in Kano, often providing financial support for wedding expenses, including dowries, furniture, and household essentials, while also ensuring proper screening and matchmaking of couples.
Beyond mass weddings, the government has also set aside significant funds for other social programmes in 2025, including, N1 billion for Ramadan feeding programs, N955 million for a manpower statistics survey, a general household survey, and data collection on out-of-school children.
Shanono emphasized that the government remains committed to improving citizens’ welfare through targeted initiatives that address economic challenges and promote social cohesion.
