Kano gov revokes licenses of Kannywood, Amart entertainment companies
Kano State Censorship Board has announced the revocation of licenses for two companies, Kannywood Enterprises Limited and Amart Entertainment, owned by Aisha Tijjani, popularly known as Hajiya Amart.
The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, Alh. Abba El-Mustapha, announced on Thursday during a discussion with reporters in his office.
Explaining the reasons behind the revocation, El-Mustapha stated, “It is due to non-compliance with the laws of the Board and defamation of character and abusing the Director in the office of the Executive Secretary.”
The decision comes after the Board received complaints about the companies from the Association of Kano State Downloaders.
Allegations surfaced that Hajiya Aisha Amart, the owner of the two companies, used security personnel to extort money, claiming that fines imposed on her were excessively high. The Board had reportedly invited her multiple times to address the issues, but she declined.
El-Mustapha emphasized that Hajiya Aisha Amart lacks the legal authority to arrest or prosecute anyone in court under the pretext of piracy. He pointed out that despite the invitations to resolve the problems, she chose not to engage with the Board.
The revocation of licenses was met with jubilation from leaders and members of the Kano State Downloaders Association, who appreciated the efforts of the Censorship Board.
