The Kano State Government has announced that all bank accounts operated by its ministries, departments, and agencies will be closed. The funds will be merged into a single treasury account.
Governor Abba Yusuf gave this directive during a meeting at the Government House in Kano on Wednesday. He said the decision was made due to financial irregularities found in various ministries and agencies.
“The government has taken this step to ensure that funds are managed properly and to eliminate any avenues for financial misconduct,” Governor Yusuf explained. He warned that any ministry or agency that does not comply within one week will face legal consequences.
At the same meeting, Zayyid Abubakar, Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service, introduced a new tax collection plan.
Abubakar said, “This system will help increase revenue for Kano State and curb the misappropriation of government funds.”
The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Shehu Sagagi, as well as commissioners, heads of ministries and agencies, and representatives from various banks.
