Kano businessman defrauds customer of N3.5m after failed promise to supply 50 motorcycles

A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded a 35-year-old man, Ali Tijjani, in a Correctional Centre for alleged N3.5 million fraud.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mustapha Sa’ad-Datti, ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice and adjourned the case until February 22, for mention.

The defendant, who resides at Ring Road area of Kano, is facing two charges of breach of trust and fraud to which he pleaded not guilty.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Miss Asma’u Ado, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in October 2020 at Ring Road, Kano.

Ado said that the defendant collected N3.5 million from the complainant, Alhaji Muhammad Zakariyya, to supply him 50 units of Cargo motorcycles, but failed to do so.
“In the process the defendant converted the money to his personal use,” the prosecutor said.
He said that the offence contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
