The Kano State House of Assembly has passed a bill to create second-class emirates in the state.
This decision was made on Tuesday during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore.

Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello Butubutu moved for the adoption and passage of the bill after the second and third readings. “The bill has been passed to create second-class emirates in Kano,” Butubutu announced.

This development comes amid a power tussle for the Kano emirship between the reinstated Kano Emir, Muhammad Sanusi II, and the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero. The newly created second-class emirates include Rano, Karaye, and Gaya, but Bichi was excluded from the bill passed into law on Tuesday.

Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, who was previously the emir of Bichi, was dethroned along with four other emirate councils created by former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf recently dethroned the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and four other emirs.

The ongoing emirship tussle in Kano has seen significant changes since Governor Yusuf reinstated Muhammad Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano. The new bill is expected to reshape the structure and hierarchy of the emirates in the state.
