The political atmosphere in Kano State is charged with tension as the All Progressives Congress on Thursday declared its intention to hold a political rally on Saturday, despite the New Nigeria People’s Party also planning a rally on the same day.

Following the recent Court of Appeal decision to remove Abba Yusuf as the governor of Kano State, political activities have heightened in the state.

Abba Yusuf rejected the tribunal verdict, leading to a legal battle that has kept the political landscape in Kano in constant flux.

Director General of the Garo Campaign Organisation, Rabiu Bichi, addressed the press on behalf of Kano APC stakeholders at the national secretariat in Abuja, shedding light on the party’s decision to hold the rally.

Bichi acknowledged the potential for clashes with NNPP but reassured that the rally would be peaceful.

“We have it from reliable sources that they are planning a mass protest on Saturday during which key figures of the APC will be targeted, if possible to eliminate them. It is on this note that we called the Kano State police command and other security agencies to be alive to their responsibilities and take appreciative measures to avoid loss of life and property. In defence of democracy and peace in the state, we are holding a rally on Saturday in Kano,” said Bichi.

He further explained the APC’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law, emphasizing the party’s rejection of the election outcome and its pursuit of reclaiming the mandate through legal channels.

Bichi revealed the alleged threats made by NNPP government members, including the Secretary to the Kano State Government, Baffa Bichi, against the tribunal judges, leading to the delivery of the judgement via Zoom for the safety of the judges.

The APC Director General expressed concerns about escalating violence, especially since the return of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the embattled leader of NNPP, who reportedly outlined plans to unleash violence and make Kano ungovernable if the Supreme Court rules in favor of the APC.
