The Kaduna State Police Command apprehended a suspected gunrunner and seized 200 live ammunition in an operation carried out on the 17th of January.
The suspect, Musa Yusuf, hailing from Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, was intercepted by police officers from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Tudun Wada, Zaria.
According to a statement by the Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, the suspect, who was on a commercial motorcycle, aroused suspicion due to a handbag he was carrying.
Upon accosting him, the suspect attempted to escape but was pursued and apprehended.
After searching the handbag, the police discovered and confiscated 202 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm live ammunition.
Early investigations indicated that Musa Yusuf was on a mission for a bandit known as Emir in the Zurmi forest.
His task was to collect the ammunition at Bakin Kogi in Kauru LGA of Kaduna State and deliver it to the said bandit.
Hassan stated that he had since accomplished the first stage of the mission by collecting the ammunition but was intercepted before delivering by the ever-vigilant police officers attached to Tudun Wada Zaria Division.
He also said the Investigation is still ongoing, and concerted efforts are being made to arrest his accomplices. After which the case will be charged to court.
Commending the alertness of the police officers, CP A.D Ali, the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, emphasized the need for increased visibility policing.
He urged operatives to dominate their areas of responsibility and make their presence felt to maintain law and order.
