The Kaduna State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party has suspended its Chairman, Muhammad Lawal Sultan, for six months over allegations of gross misconduct.

The suspension was announced in an official statement signed by the party’s Secretary, Dr. Joshua Madaki, following a meeting of the State Working Committee.

The party disclosed that it has appointed Hon. Jumare Tanimu Magaji to serve in an acting capacity during the suspension period.

“The suspension is based on relevant provisions of the NNPP constitution bordering on gross acts of misconduct that violated its provisions,” the statement read.

According to the party, Sultan’s leadership was reviewed during the meeting, and his actions were found to be in contravention of the party’s constitution.

The SWC emphasized that the disciplinary action followed due process as outlined in the party’s rules.

The newly appointed acting Chairman, Hon. Jumare, brings with him a broad background in public service and politics.

He previously served as a councillor between 1999 and 2002 under the APP, was a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly from 2007 to 2009 under the ANPP, and contested three times for the House of Representatives.

In 2012, he served as an adviser to the Lere Local Government Chairman and was until recently the State Treasurer of the NNPP.

“He is a man of principle and proven integrity who believes in carrying people along and has the conscience of the NNPP at heart,” the party noted.

“As a unifier, the SWC believes he will use his wealth of democratic experience and leverage to unify and defend the NNPP’s interests in the state and beyond.”

The SWC added that it has notified all relevant authorities of the leadership change, including the NNPP National Secretariat, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The statement concluded with a warning to the suspended Chairman, cautioning him against parading himself as the Kaduna NNPP Chairman during the suspension period. The party also advised the public and stakeholders not to conduct any business with Sultan on behalf of the NNPP, stating, “Anyone who does so does so at his own risk.”
