Justice Shuaibu takes over Agba Jalingo’s case Thursday
An administrative judge of the Calabar division of the Federal High court, Justice Sule Shuaibu, is to take over Agba Jalingo’s case on Thursday.
Jalingo, who has been on trial over alleged acts of terrorism and cybercrime will on Thursday be arraigned before Justice Shuaibu.
The former trial judge, Justice Simon Amobeda, had recused himself for the second time in his ruling on Friday, February 7, 2020.
Jalingo is expected to take a fresh plea on the four-count charge preferred against him. It is also expected that his counsel will move a motion for his bail on the same day.
His last appearance before Justice Amobeda was delayed by 48 hours after the judges could not sign the warrant to produce him in court.
Justice Amobeda had ordered a secret trial and denied Jalingo bail twice.
Also, the Cross River State government through Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tanko Ashang has officially taken over the prosecution from the police.
Ashang who announced appearance last Friday told the court that a letter to that effect had been filed and was in the court’s record.
Amnesty International in a press conference in Calabar last Thursday declared that Jalingo’s trial is a “sham” and did not meet the basic standards.
