The South East region on Sunday afternoon announced that it has launched a joint security outfit codenamed ‘Ebubeagu’ to protect its people and fight terrorism.
The decision was reached after an emergency security meeting by five South Eastern governors and stakeholders in Imo State today.
In recent times, the South East has been overrun by a wave of attacks from gunmen, kidnappers and suspected terrorists.
Speaking with newsmen after the meeting, Chairman of the South East Governors Forum and Ebonyi Governor, Dave Umahi disclosed that the regional security would be made up of joint vigilante from the region with headquarters in Enugu state.
The governors in attendance were Okezuo Ikpeazu (Abia), Willie Obiano (Anambra); Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi) and the host governor, Hope Uzodimma (Imo).
Also present were President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo world-wide, Prof. George Obiozor and top security chiefs from the region.
