Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, disclosed on Saturday that another Chibok girl has been rescued from captivity, Channels Television reports.
According to a statement released by the governor, the rescued girl was married to a Boko Haram fighter and returned with two kids she delivered while in captivity.
This development is coming after over seven years after 276 were raided and captured from their school in Borno.
Recall that on April 14, 2014, Boko Haram gunmen had seized 276 girls aged between 12 and 17 from the Government Girls Secondary School in the remote town of Chibok in Borno state.
The girls were forced out from their dormitories and loaded into waiting trucks that immediately drove off into Sambisa forest.
Although 57 girls reportedly managed to escape, the then leader of Boko Haram insurgents, Abubakar Shekau, claimed responsibility in a video released on May 5, 2014 and vowed to sell off the girls as slave brides.
A week later, a second video showed about 100 of the missing girls with Boko Haram declaring that they have been converted to Islam and will not be released unless militant fighters held in custody were freed.
Two years after the attack, Amnesty International had emphasised in a statement that “Although most escaped or were later released, more than 100 girls remain in captivity.”
