JUST IN: Panic as Facebook WhatsApp, Instagram crash

There was a global panic, today, March 19, as several users of Whatsapp, Facebook and Instagram reported a temporary crash of the social media apps.

The reports say tech giant, Facebook, acknowledged the service outage on these platforms.

Many users said they were unable to log in or download images on the messaging platform, while on Instagram, users are unable to upload videos or refresh their feeds.

Although North America and Europe have the worst hit, Africa and users in Nigeria are also affected. You can imagine the resulting hullabaloo from Nigerian social media users.

Instagram was showing users a server error while Facebook was also running an error message for some users attempting to log in.

Downdetector tracks outages by collating status reports from a series of sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform.

Recall that Instagram and WhatsApp are other social media verticals of the tech giant, Facebook, as they were acquired by Mark Zuckerberg.
