JUST IN: Insurgency fuelled by unemployment, poverty – Buhari
Nigeria’s President, Major General Major Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Thursday stated that the insurgency that has given rise to Boko Haram and Islamic State West African Province in Northern Nigeria is largely fuelled by youth unemployment and poverty.
Buhari made the disclosure in an interview with Arise TV aired on Thursday.
The Nigerian leader said he believed his government has done a lot to fight the terrorists but the problem in the “North-East is very difficult,” PUNCH reports.
Buhari also stated that the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum told him that majority of the Boko Haram members are Nigerians.
