JUST IN: Hoodlums attack Okonjo-Iweala’s brother in Delta

Armed thugs suspected to be cultists on Friday attacked the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, HRM Obi Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II and his council members on their way from Otulu Ogwashiku-Uku, Delta State.

Reports said the Obi, who is the brother of the director-general of the World Trade Organisation, Prof. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was returning from the community where he went to offer prayers in the company of his council members before the attack.

This was contained in a statement issued by the spokesperson to the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, Prince Greg Okwumbu, on Saturday morning.

Okwumbu said that the Obi was departing at the end of the visit, suspected hired thugs and cultists who were aware of the royal father’s visit attacked members of the entourage who were at the rear of the convoy.

The statement indicated that the thugs also attempted to forcefully seize a gun belonging to a law enforcement member who escorted the Obi on the visit.

According to Okwumbu, the sponsors of the attack were well known to them and will be punished accordingly.

“It is important to note that members of the press accompanied the Obi on the visit. Also law enforcement agents from the Office of the Area Commander and the Brigade Command in Asaba were also there at the visit and witnessed everything that happened.

“The people who sponsored the thugs are known to us and will be brought to Justice,” the statement added.
