Eyewitnesses said that the assailants first stormed St Faith Catholic Church by Mbonu Ejike/Basden Junction in an unmarked L300 bus where they shot indiscriminately to scare away voters and security operatives.

The gunmen were said to have snatched the ballot boxes amidst the ensuing chaos.

The source said, “I am sure they were two boxes but an INEC official from his hiding place said it was just one.”

In a related development, another gang of hoodlums allegedly stormed the polling unit at the Immaculate Heart Church along Ziks Avenue where another ballot box was snatched.

As of the time of filing the story, the polling centre has been deserted by both voters and security operatives.
