The Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday announced that its office in Ohafia Local Government Area in Abia state has been set ablaze.
In a statement made available to WuzupNigeria, INEC spokesman, Festus Okoye disclosed that the incident occurred on Sunday night.
Okoye also stated that although there are no casualties, the building was completely destroyed.
“The commission met today, Monday 10th May, 2021 and discussed a wide range of issues, including a disturbing report from Abia State. The REC for the State, Dr Joseph Iloh reported that INEC newly relocated office in Ohafia LGA in Abia State has been set ablaze.
“The incident occurred on late Sunday night, 9th May, 2021. Apart from furniture, all electoral materials and office equipment were destroyed. The matter has been reported to the police,” he said.
The development is coming a week after the commission office in Akwa Ibom was set ablaze.
Although no suspect has been arrested in connection with the arson, many believed that the act was carried out by hoodlums.
