Aston Villa has completed the signing of Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley on a season-long loan deal. the club announced on Wednesday.
The arrival of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen placed clouds on the former Everton man’s first-team chances with the like of Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, N’golo Kante and Jorginho preferred ahead of Barkley.
The loan deal to Villa will earn the injury-prone player who was on the scoresheet for the Blues during the current campaign, in the 6-0 Carabao Cup win over Barnsley at Stamford Bridge.
Barkley joined Frank Lampard’s men in January 2018 and has made 86 appearances for the Blues in all competitions, scoring 11 goals.
The Villans have started their second campaign back in the top flight well with a 100 per cent record at this early stage, beating Sheffield United and Fulham without conceding a goal.
They next face Stoke City in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Thursday, before hosting Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.
