Armed bandits have stormed a military camp in Zazzaga community, Munya Local Government Area of Niger State, burning down some vehicles.
According to reports, the AK-47 totting bandits, numbering about 60, stormed the military camp on motorcycles around 4 am, on Wednesday, and engaged soldiers on the ground in a gun battle that lasted two hours.
They were said to have operated in three groups. The SUN reported that while the first group raided the military camp located at a junior secondary school near the town; the second group laid ambush on the major road leading out of the community while the third group are said to have made their way to the community to prevent any reinforcements from vigilantes and youth volunteers.
The raid on the military camp comes three weeks after bandits sacked men of the Tactical Task Force from their camps at Bassa and Allawa in Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.
It was further gathered that the primary school which the soldiers had been using as their abode was razed; an operational vehicle of the security operatives was also set fire.
The bandits allegedly carted away a military truck with which they were said to have evacuated both the injured and dead among them.
