Following the heat generated by the race for the chairmanship seat of the All Progressives Congress, six candidates have stepped down to pave way for Abdullahi Adamu, the preferred aspirant of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to emerge unopposed.

The six aspirants were former governors of Nasarawa, Benue, and Zamfara, Tanko Al-Makura, George Akume, and Abdulaziz Yari respectively.

Others included Senator Sani Musa, Saliu Mustapha, and Mohammed Etsu.

WuzupNigeria reported that the APC convention scheduled to hold on Saturday (today) would witness election of members into the various executive positions of the party.

Recall that Buhari had earlier endorsed Adamu as his favoured candidate for the enviable position of chairmanship, which has been courted by former governors and senators in the country.

The president’s choice of candidate was spurred by some APC governors who prevailed on him to intervene and decide who becomes the next chairman of the party.

Consequently, he reportedly held a meeting with all the seven aspirants on Wednesday night in Aso Rock, where he told them that Adamu has been chosen as the consensus candidate.

His pronouncement was met by a strong resistance from the six aspirants who eventually withdrew from he race today.

They expressed discontentment with Buhari’s decision and vowed to challenge Adamu at the convention ground.
